FAQ

Questions We Hear Most

Everything you need to know about working with SIB Consults — before you reach out.

What exactly is an EB-2 NIW business plan, and why do I need one?

+
An EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) business plan is a formal document submitted as part of your I-140 self-petition to USCIS. Unlike a standard business plan written for investors or bank loans, an NIW business plan must satisfy the Matter of Dhanasar three-prong framework — demonstrating that your proposed endeavour has substantial merit and national importance, that you are well-positioned to advance it, and that it would benefit the United States to waive the job offer requirement.

Without a well-structured business plan, your petition may receive a Request for Evidence (RFE) — even if all your other documentation is strong. The business plan is often the document that ties your entire case together.

Can't I just use a regular business plan template for my NIW petition?

+
No — and this is one of the most common mistakes NIW petitioners make. A standard business plan is designed to convince investors or lenders. An NIW business plan must convince a USCIS adjudicator.

That means it must use immigration-specific language, align with the Dhanasar prongs, articulate national benefit in concrete terms, and position your credentials as uniquely suited to the proposed endeavour. Generic templates almost always fail this test — and the result is an RFE or denial. At SIB Consults, every business plan is written specifically for immigration review.

What fields and professions do you write NIW business plans for?

+
I work with professionals across a wide range of fields, including:
  • Medicine, clinical practice, and public health
  • Engineering (civil, structural, electrical, mechanical)
  • Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and life sciences
  • Academia and scientific research
  • Technology, software development, and cybersecurity
  • Entrepreneurship, startup founding, and fintech
  • Environmental science, cleantech, and energy
  • Finance, law, education, and policy
If your field is not listed, reach out — if a national importance argument can be made for your proposed endeavour, I can build the case.

Does your business plan service work for entrepreneurs and founders, not just employees?

+
Absolutely. The EB-2 NIW is one of the most viable self-petition green card pathways for founders and entrepreneurs precisely because it doesn't require an employer sponsor. If you're building a company with a national significance argument — in tech, healthtech, AI, cleantech, fintech, social impact, or another sector — your proposed endeavour can form a strong NIW case.

I write business plans for founders that go beyond pitch-deck narratives to articulate national importance, job creation, economic impact, and innovation in language that USCIS adjudicators are trained to respond to. View the service tiers here.

What information do I need to provide before you start writing?

+
You'll complete the SIB Consults Intake Questionnaire, which covers:
  • Your professional background, qualifications, and achievements
  • A detailed description of your proposed endeavour in the US
  • The national need or problem your work addresses
  • Your intended business structure and US state of operation
  • Financial estimates and funding sources
  • Your target filing timeline and preferred service tier
The more detail you provide, the stronger your business plan will be. A strategy call is also available to clarify any areas before drafting begins.

I received an RFE on my NIW petition. Can you help me respond?

+
Yes. RFE response drafting is one of the add-on services available at SIB Consults, and it is also included in the Elite Petition Package. I review the specific language and requests in your RFE, identify the evidentiary gaps USCIS has flagged, and draft a targeted response that addresses each point directly.

If the RFE relates to your business plan or proposed endeavour — which is common — I will revise and strengthen those sections as part of the response. Note: This is document preparation support. For legal strategy on your petition, please also consult a licensed immigration attorney.

Do you also write EB-1A petition documents?

+
Yes. I have direct experience writing EB-1A petition documents, including evidence narratives, expert opinion letter frameworks, and supporting documentation. The EB-1A (Alien of Extraordinary Ability) requires a different evidentiary strategy from the NIW — demonstrating sustained national or international acclaim across a recognised set of criteria.

If you are pursuing an EB-1A and need document support, reach out via the intake form or email sibconsults.global@gmail.com to discuss your case.

What is an expert opinion letter, and do I need one for my NIW case?

+
An expert opinion letter is a formal letter written by a credentialed professional in your field who can attest to the significance of your work and your qualifications to carry it out. It is not legally required for an NIW petition, but it is strongly recommended — particularly for prong two (well-positioned) and prong three (balance of interests).

I provide an Expert Opinion Letter Framework — a structured document and draft content that gives your chosen expert everything they need to write a compelling, USCIS-aligned letter. This is available as a standalone add-on or as part of the Elite Petition Package.

Do I need an immigration attorney to use your services?

+
No. Many clients work with SIB Consults as a standalone document preparation service without an attorney. The EB-2 NIW is a self-petition — meaning you can file it independently — and a professionally written business plan, cover letter, and supporting documents give your case strong footing.

That said, if you are working with an immigration attorney, my documents are formatted and structured to integrate seamlessly with legal filings. Several clients use SIB Consults to handle the document-writing component while their attorney manages legal strategy and filing.

What is the difference between a Statement of Purpose and a Personal Statement?

+
A Statement of Purpose (SOP) is a formal academic document that explains your reasons for applying to a specific program, outlines your academic and professional background, and articulates your research interests and career goals. It is primarily analytical and forward-looking.

A Personal Statement is typically more narrative and reflective — it focuses on who you are, your personal journey, and the experiences that have shaped you. Some programs require one or the other; others require both.

At SIB Consults, I write SOPs for MSc programs (including Computer Science, MBA, and other postgraduate courses), as well as Statements of Purpose for Canadian study permit applications.

I'm applying to a Canadian university for a study permit. Do I need a separate SOP for the visa application?

+
Yes — and this is a critical distinction many applicants miss. The SOP you submit to the university for admission is different from the Statement of Purpose required by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for your study permit application.

The IRCC SOP must specifically address: your reasons for studying in Canada, why you chose your institution and program, your financial capacity, and — critically — your ties to your home country and intention to return after completing your studies. A weak or missing IRCC SOP is one of the most common reasons for study permit refusals. View SOP templates and services here.

Do you write SOPs for specific universities or programs?

+
Yes. While I offer SOP templates applicable across multiple universities, I also write bespoke, university-specific SOPs tailored to the exact program requirements, faculty research areas, and institutional tone of your target university.

For MSc programs, this includes referencing specific faculty members whose research aligns with your interests — a detail that significantly strengthens admissions SOPs for research-intensive programs in the UK, Canada, US, Australia, and Europe.

How long does it take to receive my completed business plan or SOP?

+
Delivery timelines vary by service tier:
  • Foundation Plan: 10–14 business days
  • Professional Plan: 7 business days
  • Elite Petition Package: 5–7 business days (rush option: 3–5 days)
Timelines begin after receipt of your completed intake questionnaire and payment confirmation. If your deadline is urgent, contact me directly at sibconsults.global@gmail.com or via WhatsApp to discuss availability.

What happens after I submit the intake questionnaire?

+
Within 1–2 business days of receiving your intake submission, I will:
  • Review your case details and assess your proposed endeavour
  • Send a confirmation email with your case summary and engagement details
  • Share an invoice for your selected service tier
  • Schedule a strategy call if applicable (Professional and Elite tiers)
Drafting begins once payment is confirmed. You will receive your first draft within the timeline for your selected tier.

How many revisions are included? What if I need more?

+
Revisions are included as follows:
  • Foundation Plan: 1 round of revisions
  • Professional Plan: 2 rounds of revisions
  • Elite Petition Package: Unlimited revisions within a 30-day window
If you need additional revisions beyond your tier's allocation, these can be arranged at an additional fee. My commitment is that every document delivered meets the scope agreed at intake — if it falls short, revisions are provided at no extra cost.

Is my information kept confidential?

+
Absolutely. All information you share — including your professional background, proposed endeavour, financial details, and petition documents — is held in strict confidence and used solely for the purpose of preparing your documents. SIB Consults does not share, sell, or disclose client information to any third party.

If you require a formal Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before sharing sensitive case details, this can be arranged. Contact me directly to request one.

What are the service fees and what do they include?

+
SIB Consults offers three EB-2 NIW Business Plan tiers:
  • Foundation Plan — $650: Full business plan, 1 revision, 10–14 day delivery
  • Professional Plan — $1,100: Full plan + NIW cover letter + strategy call + 2 revisions, 7-day delivery
  • Elite Petition Package — $1,950: Full petition support, unlimited revisions, RFE drafting, expert opinion letter framework, 60-day post-submission support
Add-on services (RFE drafting, expert opinion letter framework, NIW cover letter, strategy consultation) are also available separately. View the full pricing page here.

What payment methods do you accept?

+
Payment details are shared upon confirmation of your engagement following intake review. International payments are accepted via bank transfer and other secure methods. For template purchases, you can pay directly through the Selar store, which supports multiple payment options including cards and mobile money.

If you have questions about payment methods before submitting your intake, reach out at sibconsults.global@gmail.com.

Do you offer refunds?

+
Given the bespoke, research-intensive nature of the work, refunds are not offered once drafting has commenced. However, my commitment is clear: if the completed document does not meet the scope agreed at intake, I will revise it at no additional cost until it does.

Before payment is made, you will receive a clear summary of scope, deliverables, and timeline — so there are no surprises. If you have concerns before committing, book a strategy consultation first.

Can I purchase just a consultation without committing to a full service?

+
Yes. A 60-minute Strategy Consultation is available as a standalone service for $120. This session covers your NIW viability, proposed endeavour framing, business plan strategy, and any questions you have about the process — before you commit to a full engagement.

Many clients use the strategy call to confirm the strength of their case and decide which service tier is right for them. To book, complete the intake form and select the consultation option.
